Finding the Factors of a Number Using the Tree Method

We can split a number into factors by using the tree method illustrated in the figure below.

In this way, we can identify the factors of 120 by considering the numbers above but not only; we can multiply 2 or more of the above factors to obtain other factors of this number. Hence, the factors of 120 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 24, 30, 40, 60 and 120.
