Mixed Numbers
Mixed numbers represent another form of improper fraction. A mixed number contains a whole part followed by a proper fraction as shown in the scheme below.
a + b/c = a b/c
For example, we can write
4 + 2/5 = 4 2/5

This number is a mixed number as it contains two parts: a whole part (9) and a proper fraction (
1/3).This number is an improper fraction as the numerator (17) is greater than denominator (6). This number is a proper fraction as the numerator (7) is smaller than denominator (12). This number is a mixed number as it contains two parts: a whole part (5) and a proper fraction (
3/7).
