So, we will begin with finding out the factors of either side:

Of all the factors for each of the given numbers in the ratio, 1 & 3 are the common factors.

Now, we need to find the greatest common factor (GCF) or highest common factor (HCF), which is 3.

So, we will divide both sides by 3

5 : 7

So, the simplified ratio of 15 : 21 is 5 : 7.

When variables are included in one or both sides of the ratio, such a ratio is known as an algebraic ratio. To understand how to simplify an algebraic ratio, let's take an example of the following ratio:

18x² = 72x

To simplify the ratio, start with finding the GCF or the HCF of the numerical values of the above ratio. To that, you'll first need to find the factors of 18 and 72:

18 = 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18

72 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 72

Now, from the factors mentioned above, we can see that the GCF or the HCF is 18.

Dividing both sides by 18, we have:

Dividing both sides by x for further simplification, we have,
